Security at BPI

Security is one of BPI's main concerns, which is reflected in a permanent concern on the part of a specialist team that tries to find the best solutions at any time, considering the best international practices:

  • Communication through the Internet: To ensure high security in internet communications, BPI has developed an infrastructure that uses state-of-the-art technology;
  • Membership no./Username and Password: To authenticate the access to online banking services, it is essential to enter individualised personal details identifying the Client, and which are encrypted at the time they are sent via the internet. The Login ID is defined at sign-in, and it is mandatory that the Password be changed upon the first login. To ensure the security of your account, you should never write or disclose your Login ID;
  • Authorisation of Transactions (Personal Code Card and Authorisation by SMS): BPI reinforces the security of its Services through the use of a Personal Code Card and/or Authorisation by SMS. Never give out your Personal card codes to a third party.
    For security reasons, after 3 failed attempts at entering the code of your Personal Code Card, or the 6-digit code received by SMS, your access to the Service will be cancelled;
  • Automatic Access Cancellation: If the online banking session is not closed, BPI developed an automatic cancellation of the session, after 15 minutes without the system being used. It is worth noting that the Client is also responsible for a major part of the Security of the Service, by keeping its Login ID secret and closing the online banking session ("Exit" option) whenever it is ended, or whenever the Client needs to move away from the computer where the session is open.
